Two Home Games Left

Due to a scheduling change, the Door County Destroyers semi-pro football team had back-to-back bye weeks. The team made good use of their time off with solid practices which resulted in a 33-7 league win over the Leyden Lions at the Lions’ field in Northlake, Ill. The Destroyers came out strong and never relented, racking up 20 points to the Lions’ 0 in the first half. The third quarter saw one touchdown and extra point for each team, but the Destroyers’ defense maintained their hold over their opponent and improved their regular season record to 1-1-1.

Coach Chris Knapp said, “The level of competition in the MSFL helps us all improve. We have a winning mentality as a team and the bonds between us are becoming quite strong. This team exemplifies and embodies what I love most about football.”

The Destroyers are currently at mid-season, with four games remaining – two home and two away. Saturday, July 18, is the next opportunity to support the local football team when they take on the Sheboygan County Rebels at the Baileys Harbor Recreational Park, with kickoff at 4 pm. The final home game of the 2015 summer season will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, against the Lincoln Way Patriots of New Lenox, Ill. Tickets are $8 and are available at the gate, concessions include Dani’s Famous BBQ Beef sandwiches, Marchant’s hot dogs, chips, candy, soda, water and a wide variety of Budweiser products.
