Two Join Southern Door Hall of Fame

The Southern Door Athletic Booster Club is proud to announce its Hall of Fame induction class for 2015. This year inductees include Ben Johnson, class of 1998, and Nikki Malcore-Fitzgibbon, class of 1992.

Ben Johnson

The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Feb. 6, at half-time of the Eagles boys’ basketball game vs. Sturgeon Bay, in the Eagle gym. Game time is 7:30 pm.

Johnson was a member of the football, basketball and track and field teams at Southern Door. Ben earned 10 varsity letters, and was a 1st team all-conference offensive and defensive lineman. His success in football earned him a full college scholarship to UW-Madison to play for the Badgers that that won several bowl games, including two Rose Bowls. He was then drafted into the NFL in the 7th round by the Detroit Lions. He spent three years in the NFL, both stateside and in Europe, and retired a San Diego Charger. He earned a degree in Sociology from UW-Madison. Ben, his wife Courtney, and their two sons Brock and Duke live in Holmen, Wis. He is working in purchasing at City Brewery in LaCrosse.

Nikki Malcore-Fitzgibbon

Malcore-Fitzgibbon participated in basketball and track, earning six varsity letters. Nikki excelled in basketball earning letters all four years. She was a three-time 1st Team All-Conference player. Nikki was the first female 1,000-point scorer and currently SDHS all-time leading female scorer with 1,317 points. She led her team to a conference championship in 1992, as well as WIAA regional and sectional championships. The team participated at the WIAA Division 2 state tournament in 1992. Her excellence in basketball earned her a full college scholarship to Northern Michigan University, where she was an All-Conference player, as well as, team captain and MVP in 1995-96. Nikki received a degree in Health and Biology Secondary Education. She currently owns a small home organizing, staging and redesign business called” Everything Fitz Staging and ReDesign.” Nikki, her husband John, and two daughters, Madison and Lauren, reside in Mequon, Wis.
