Two Plein Air Painters Featured at DCAL Gallery

Painting Door County in plein air is Dorothy McDowell’s passion. McDowell, award-winning oil and acrylic painter, is the artist of the week at The Gallery of the Door County Art League (DCAL) in the courtyard at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek beginning Aug. 13.

McDowell has coordinated the DCAL plein air program for four years and is a member of the Ft. Myers and Sanibel Captiva Art Leagues. Capturing the light and color of the moment in her plein air work is evident in her strong compositions of Door County landscapes.

The public is invited to a special artist’s reception at the DCAL Gallery for August’s guest artist, Karen DeNoto, on Aug. 13, 3-5 pm. At the reception, the Dutch Auction Birdhouse Benefit for DCAL will be reset at $45 for your choice of a birdhouse created by 25 DCAL members.

DeNoto also can be seen catching the shadows, colors and shapes of Door County through her plein air painting. After 20 years in the graphic arts business, she has made Door County the home of her studio, Passionate Palette Studio and Gallery, in Sturgeon Bay.

Visit the gallery daily from 11 am to 5 pm. For more information, email [email protected] or visit doorcountyartleague.org.
