Two Town Hall Bakery Concerts

The Jacksonport Town Hall Bakery Concert series continues this summer with Berkely-based Claudia Russell and the Folk Unlimited Orchestra, as well as Chicago-based Al Rose.

On June 27, songstress Russell and her band the Folk Unlimited Orchestra are starting their 2008 Wisconsin Tour at the Town Hall Bakery. Russell is well known for her work with American Folklore Theatre, including performances in Old Friends, the Music of Paul Simon and Goodnight Irene, the music of the Weavers. Russell’s husband Bruce Kaplan on mandolin, guitar and vocals and Mark Petrella on acoustic bass make up the band. They play a unique blend woven from blues, country, pop and traditional music to form an eclectic sound.

Then on July 11, Chicago’s Al Rose is back at the Town Hall Bakery. Rose is a striking songwriter and musician with a unique and powerful vision carried to his audience via strange and poetic lyrics and a wild mix of folk and rock. He has a new album out this year, My First Posthumous Release, another collection of songs full of amazing imagery, off the wall ways of describing life and powerful good music. Rose will be supported by the guitar playing of Maury Smith.

Opening both events will be local musician and host of the Town Hall Bakery Series Jeanne Kuhns with Madison guitarist Maury Smith, who worked extensively on her new CD, Ghost Ranch, which releases at Woodwalk Gallery June 28, 2008.

The Town Hall Bakery Concert starts at 7 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door, come early to get a seat as no reservations taken. Enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the bakery on the quiet side of the Door. Beer, Wine, Coffee, cold drinks and desserts will be available.
