Ukulele Workshop

On Sept. 18, Milwaukee-based ukulele and harmonica player Lil Rev will present an instructional ukulele workshop and then a concert at Jacksonport Town Hall Bakery. The workshop will take place from 4 – 5:30 pm. At 7:30 pm, Lil Rev will perform a concert of folk, old-time blues, novelty, and original songs appropriate for all ages.

Lil Rev’s workshop is called Super Cool Right Hand Techniques and will focus on rolls, triplets, strums, tremolos, and other tricks for the ukulele. The workshop will be appropriate for all skill levels. Participants should bring a ukulele.

Lil Rev is an award-winning ukulele and harmonica player from Milwaukee. He is often called “The Johnny Appleseed of the Ukulele,” logging more than 40,000 miles a year teaching and performing at traditional arts camps, music stores, festivals, temples, house concerts, folk societies, and ukulele clubs across North America. He has published numerous ukulele instructional books and DVDS, and he is well known on the international ukulele scene as a protector of old songs and playing styles including early blues, Tin-Pan Alley, old time, Yiddish, and American folk styles. He is also known for his passionate endeavors to preserve antiquated right hand strokes and strums and is in demand on the workshop circuit for this reason.

Lil Rev’s workshop and performance is sponsored by the Ukulele Society of Door County, which meets to play together every third Sunday at various locations throughout the peninsula. For more information about the organization, visit the Ukulele Society of Door County’s Facebook page.
