Understanding Your iPad

Let’s be honest, iPads (and iPhones) are overwhelming – camera, email, and internet browser in one. Then there are the apps – hundreds of thousands of apps – for calculating finances, losing weight, enhancing photos, making music, creating art, playing games, and much more. Where does one begin to take advantage of what this technology is capable of?

We have the answer – T.C. Johnson will lead the iPad Users Group for the curious and the serious, anyone who wishes to learn more information, expertise, and ideas regarding iPads on the third Wednesday of each month at the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Library at 1 pm.

Before you attend, download a few of these apps and explore:

iA Writer: This app forces writers to focus on…writing – something I know a thing or two about, but struggle and procrastinate as much as anyone else! Once you start typing, this app presents a distraction-free, clean sheet. Simple and effective.

Snapseed: A step up from Instagram (another personal favorite), this app allows users to enhance and transform their photos using various filters as well as simple auto corrects. I could spend hours tweaking photos into works of art with this app!

Paper: This app allows you to create visual art from scratch using simple, familiar steps: sketch, write, draw, outline, and color. This apps looks like a notebook or journal without all the confusing buttons and options. Even the most artistically impaired can create something mesmerizing.

Garageband: If musical, not visual, art is your cup of tea, download Garageband. This app turns your iPad into a full-fledged recording studio with an array of instruments at your fingertips – piano, guitar, drums. You can record your voice and mix a song where and whenever you please!

Duoling: Looking to learn Spanish, German, Portuguese? Try this app, which adds a gaming element to learning a language. Users win rewards by passing levels with the help of furry creature coaches in this (surprisingly free) app.
