Underwater Shipwreck Photography Exhibit Opens at DCMM

The photography exhibit “Ghost Ships of the Wisconsin Schooner Coast” will open at the Door County Maritime Museum’s Reddin Bridge Room on Saturday, April 30. The show is presented by the Neptune’s Dive Club of Green Bay in conjunction with the museum.

The exhibition will feature the work of Dennis Mullen, an accomplished diver who is particularly noted for his underwater and nature photography. The exhibit is being described as a virtual dive experience.

“Some of the most significant shipwrecks off the Lake Michigan coast are featured in the exhibit,” said the museum’s Executive Director Bob Desh, who emphasized that Wisconsin’s Schooner Coast is a newly formed marketing collaboration. “It highlights the rich maritime history of the 60-mile stretch along the Lake Michigan coastline and the quaint port towns of Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Kewaunee, Algoma and Sturgeon Bay.”

The photos will be on display in Sturgeon Bay through July 5. The exhibit will then be moved to the maritime museum in Gills Rock for display through October 16.

Admission to the museum is $12.50 for adults and $9 for youth and includes a docent-led tour of the tug John Purves. A museum-only admission of $8 for adults and $4 for youth is also offered. Located at 120 N. Madison Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, the museum is open 10 am – 5 pm daily until Memorial Day when the hours will expand to 9 am – 6 pm.
