Unique Leathers

Ilze Heider and her leather handbags and accessories will be featured at the Door County Wearable Art Show inside the Sister Bay Village Hall Aug. 23 & 24.

Heider individually handcrafts each leather item herself. After choosing the highest quality leathers in a wide range of colors, she cuts, dyes and stitches the pieces in her studio overlooking the Milwaukee River in Grafton, Wis. Each bag has a unique design element. Drawing on her Latvian heritage for inspiration, she hand paints sections based on traditional textile designs. Antique Tibetan beads and jewelry accent some of her leathers.

Hosted by Baileys Harbor fiber artist, Sue Donohoo of Soo Hoo Artwear, the two-day event consists of 10 artists and their handcrafted apparel, accessories and jewelry. The Door County Wearable Art Show will be held on Aug. 23 from 9 am to 5 pm and Aug. 24 from 10 am to 4 pm inside the Sister Bay Village Hall, Waterfront Park, 10693 N Bay Shore Drive. Admission is free. For more information, call or text 920.421.0449 or visit doorcountywearableartshow.com.
