United Way Hosts Retired Supreme Court Justice

United Way of Door County is honored to announce that Retired Supreme Court Justice Janine Geske will be the guest speaker at their annual CEO Breakfast on August 14.

As part of its annual campaign, United Way of Door County brings together the owners and CEO’s of local businesses during a breakfast meeting. This meeting’s purpose is to promote lasting partnerships between United Way of Door County and Door County businesses.

After Geske graduated from Marquette Law School she held various positions at the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee before becoming a Circuit Court Judge for Milwaukee County. In 1993 she was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court and served until 1998 in that capacity. She is the Founder and Director of the Restorative Justice Initiative at Marquette University Law School and continues to hold the position of Distinguished Professor of Law at her alma mater.

She will be speaking about the Restorative Justice program, which identifies how a crime has affected a community and what needs to be done to repair the harm. Another important aspect of the initiative is addressing juvenile offenders. The focus is aimed towards adolescent violations and how it impacts youth and it prevents larger problems later in life.

United Way of Door County’s CEO Breakfast will be held Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Cherry Hills Golf Course. Community members are invited to this year’s event and there is no cost to attend.

If you would like more information, or would like to attend this event, advance reservations are necessary. Please contact United Way of Door County at 920.746.9645 or [email protected].
