Upcoming Land Trust Hikes Focus on Overall Wellbeing

Join the Door County Land Trust and a physician from Ministry Door County Medical Center for two upcoming hikes on Door County Land Trust nature preserves. Participants will hear tips to reduce stress and improve your physical and mental health while exploring Door County’s natural beauty.

On Oct. 19, 10 am to 12 pm, Dr. Chona Antonio and Land Trust hike leader Chuck Lauter will co-lead a walk at the Land Trust’s Three Springs Nature Preserve, located two miles east of Sister Bay. Dr. Antonio will guide participants through the steps of meditative walking, and talk about the historic medicinal uses of plants found along the trail.

Lauter will share information on the geological features and plants found on this nature preserve.

On Nov. 2, 10 am – 12 pm, Dr. James Heise and Land Trust hike leaders Dale and Mary Goodner will lead a hike at the Land Trust’s Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve, located along the Lake Michigan shore. The Goodners will share information about the preserve’s ecology and geology while Dr. Heise offers information on the importance of walking for all aspects of well-being.

Participants on either or both of these hikes should be prepared for a 90-minute hike, with several brief stops along the way. Please wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes appropriate for the weather. The hikes take place rain or shine.
