Upcoming Programs at Heritage Village

Heritage Village at Big Creek offers numerous programs during the summer. Upcoming programs include a fur trading program and tours of the Village.

On July 28 at 2 pm, Dr. Bill Laatsch will present “Fur Trading from Wisconsin up Through Northern Canada” in the Collins Learning Center.

Laatsch, retired University of Wisconsin – Green Bay professor, has a vast knowledge of the history of Door County and beyond. He writes, “As a kid I became fascinated with just a dot on the map in Canada’s north call Fort Chipewyan. For a few decades it was called the Emporium of the North for the richness of the furs in that area. While at the University of Alberta I had the opportunity to do significant research on Fort Chip which has some ties to Green Bay.”

On Aug. 4, tours of the entire Village will be given, led by presenters and docents at the Village. One new feature is the “Hanson House,” one of only three or four houses of its unique architectural design still in existence in the United States. Norwegian Settlers brought the technique to this country.

Heritage Village at Big Creek is located at 2041 Michigan Street in Sturgeon Bay. For more information call 920.421.2332.
