Upcycled Benches Up for Auction

Pianos, trucks and wine barrels have been recycled and upcycled into a new life as benches in the 17th annual Sturgeon Bay Street Art project, Benches by the Bay. It’s time for them, and the other 22 beautifully decorated benches, to find their new homes. Pick out a spot in your house, business or yard, and come to the bench auction at the end of Harvest Festival, Sept. 16. The auction begins at 5:30 pm in Martin Park, 207 S. Third Ave.

This year’s auction features 17 unique two-seat, straight-back benches and eight free-form creations. All of the benches up for auction will be moved and put on display in Martin Park beginning Sept. 11.

Pre-registration for the Sturgeon Bay Bench Art Auction begins at 4 pm in Martin Park, at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center Auction Registration table. Register and receive a numbered auction paddle for bidding. Benches will be auctioned off in the order listed in the Auction Program (only available at the auction, order subject to change). Bid on the bench(es) you desire – your purchase price is tax deductible, and half of the money goes to the artist, the other half goes to Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center for future public art and community projects. Cash, check or credit cards are accepted for benches.

Can’t attend the auction? Absentee bids are being accepted for those unable to attend. Cast your absentee bid at: sturgeonbay.net or call 920.743.6246.
