W.W. Baker & R.B. Parker, lightening rod men, of the Baker firm which so smoothly soaped our people last fall, were locked up in jail in Milwaukee last Saturday for selling their wares without license.

Like Nimrod of old, Ed. Daniels, of Sevastopol, is a “mighty hunter” – not before the Lord, but in the woods of Door county. As a shootist, he is so well known by wild cats, foxes, and the like, that when any of them want to die they hunt Ed. up, and tell him to blaze away. The result is, their hides invariably get into his depository of curiosities. Last week a big black bear, who had heard of the kindness of Ed’s heart in relieving the wild animals of the cares of life, and its ills, came snuffling around after him that he might receive the benefit of his skill. A crack from Ed’s rifle fixed the matter; but the bear forgot to return to its mate. It was a fat old fellow, and we can vouch for the excellence of its meat. Mr. O. Hart assisted in the funeral services.

BIG TIME AT BAILEYS HARBOR

Black Eyes and Bloody Noses the Principal

Features of the Occasion

On Saturday evening of last week there was a dance at Adolph Jones’ place, at Baileys Harbor, which was probably the most exciting affair of the kind that has taken place in this county for some time. A considerable delegation of the “boys” came over from Egg Harbor and after getting a comfortable “jag” on they proceeded to “paint things red” in the most approved frontier style. A general invitation to fight was extended to anyone from Baileys Harbor, but as the home talent seemed somewhat reticent about coming forward, the outsiders wandered around through the crowd “smashing” anyone who looked as if he wanted to fight. Blood flowed around almost as freely as whisky and black eyes were distributed throughout the crowd with liberal impartiality….On Monday warrants were sworn out against Wm. And Henry Carmody of Egg Harbor…They were brought to this city on Tuesday by Sheriff Wagener and taken before Justice Masse, but before the case came to trial it was settled by the defendants paying all costs, which amounted to about $7. During the fracas a son of Mr. Jones, the proprietor of the place, received quite severe injuries from being struck over the head by a bottle, he being rather badly cut in several places.

THE GREAT WHITE WAY READY

A good sized crew of electricians and helpers have been busy all week putting up the arches for the new Cedar street lighting system, and the work is now about completed….There are sixteen arches of 12 lights each in the system, extending through four blocks, and these should make the street almost as light as day.

The lights will probably be lit tonight, or tomorrow night at the latest.

Washington Is.

May Have Large

Aviation Field

Plans are now being considered for an aviation field on Washington Island according to information received this week. Although nothing definite as yet has been done, the project is more than probable. The sentiment of the island folks is for going ahead with the project and the popular demand of the many tourists of the island also strengthens the demand for such a field. Tourists demand the field that quicker means of transportation to and from the island.
