The nature photographs of Door County’s legendary naturalist Roy Lukes, a regular contributor to Peninsula Pulse, will be presented at the Unitarian Universalist Gallery August 5 – 31, with an opening reception on August 5 from noon – 2 pm. The exhibit, “Nature and the Natural World,” shows years of varied interests in the diversity of Door County.
Lukes is a professional photographer of natural subjects. His wife, Charlotte, is an expert in fungi (her county list stands at 570 species identified).
Charlotte and Roy are experts in ornithology and have been leaders in bird counts since 1959. Charlotte has also coordinated the seasonal bird watch and published, A Guide to Birds of Door County.
Roy is also a prolific writer. He began writing nature stories in 1968, and has published 2,447 Door County nature stories and still has more to tell.
Roy and Charlotte believe strongly in people “getting to know and understand nature around them, to be stewards of the land.”
Roy’s photos are for sale at Decorator’s Gallery in Egg Harbor.
The UU Gallery is located at 10341 on Highway 42, just south of the Green Gables shops in Ephraim. Gallery hours are Sunday from 11 am – 12:30 pm; and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 – 3 pm. For more information call 854.7559 or visit http://www.uufdc.com.
