UUF Screens ‘Swim Team’ July 16

The Movies That Matter Series presents Swim Team on July 16, 4:30 pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County in north Ephraim.

Swim Team is an award-winning feature documentary about a YMCA-based community swim team in New Jersey made up of kids on the autism spectrum. The film follows three of the team’s star athletes – boys on the cusp of adulthood, when government services become scarce.

The film is a portrait of diverse American families grappling with the problem of “aging out.” Over the course of a year, Swim Team explores the overwhelming struggles they face and the triumphs they achieve as they strive for independence, inclusion and a rewarding life. A Sunshine House representative will host the post-movie discussion. Since Sunshine House’s inception in 1971, it has provided services to Door County’s residents with special needs and disabilities.
