UW-Madison Team Brings “WI – 101: Our History In Objects” to Baileys Harbor Town Hall

The Heritage Alliance of Door County is pleased to bring informative speakers to the county. On Feb. 13, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, UW-Madison Professor Tom Broman and UW-Madison PhD candidate Adam Mandelman will present “WI – 101: Our History In Objects” at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall.

“WI – 101: Our History In Objects” is a state-wide collaborative initiative. The speakers will discuss ways of interpreting and presenting history through objects, as well as how history groups and private individuals can become involved with the project. Visit wi101.org for more information.

The program will include the following: an introduction to the Wisconsin 101 project; a look at some example objects and ways they could potentially contribute to the project; a tutorial using these objects on how to ask questions about material culture and tell stories using objects; a discussion with the audience about objects they think are significant to Wisconsin history in some fashion; and a question and answer session. The speakers have indicated they will stay longer to answer any questions and talk about specifics of the project with anyone interested.

All Door County historical societies and history lovers in general are invited to attend and to get involved in this new state-wide project. This event is free and open to the public. The Heritage Alliance of Door County will provide light refreshments and beverages. Donations are appreciated. RSVP by Feb. 10 to [email protected].
