Various Seminars held at Bjِrklunden throughout Summer

From June 9 – 14, Lawrence University’s Bjِrklunden is offering these seminars: “Listen to the Birds” with Don Quintenz and “Creating Better Photographs with Your Digital Camera” with Philip Krejcarek.

Learn the “language of the birds” in “Listen to the Birds.” Participants will learn field identification skills, bird sounds using a variety of sound tools, techniques for understanding the complex behaviors of birds, and fascinating discoveries that science has made about birds.

Quintenz, director of education and director of land management at Schlitz Audubon Center in Milwaukee, has taught environmental education since 1967.

“Creating Better Photographs with Your Digital Camera” will give participants greater control over the photographs they create and make digital photography easier. This class is designed for beginning students with no or little experience with digital cameras and photo editing software, as well as those who have a more advanced understanding of their camera and editing.

Krejcarek is professor of art at Carroll University and chairman of the department of visual and performing arts, where he has taught for the past 36 years.

Also, from June 16 – 21, “Worlds of Music: An Engaging Exploration of Music Around the Globe” will be taught by Brian and Leila Pertl.

Participants will explore broadly, listen deeply, discuss actively, and even let their inner musicians out to play. No background in music is required.

Leila is the harp instructor at the Lawrence Academy of Music, and the artistic director of Soundkids. Brian is the dean of the Lawrence Conservatory of Music.

Seminar classes meet weekday mornings and some evenings at Bjِrklunden’s lodge, just south of Baileys Harbor. Each seminar includes meals prepared by Bjِrklunden’s resident chef.
