The Door County Bookmobile was the internet of its day for rural families.
For decades, the Door County Bookmobile connected local residents and adults to the world outside the county.
The Egg Harbor Historical Society purchased the bookmobile from local historian John Enigl with hopes of restoring it into a new Door County Historymobile.
The bookmobile needs a new engine, transmission and gas tank, but the historical society has been raising money for it to again tour the county as a “historymobile,” sharing communities’ stories, collecting oral histories and helping to keep history alive.
In this video, our partners at Peninsula Filmworks talk to those leading the restoration effort, and residents who once ran to rural corners in excitement when the bookmobile made its rounds.
