The latest edition of the Door County Visitor Bureau’s web series, Our Door County, highlights the family connections that take Door County businesses from one generation to the next.
In the episode titled Family Made, the series introduces viewers to Jesse Johnson and the goats that provide the milk for Door County Creamery in Sister Bay. It also shows how Johnson’s entrepreneurial roots can be traced back a generation, to his parents Kris and JJ, who have built JJ’s La Puerta into one of the peninsula’s most-loved restaurants with the help of their four children.
Later, the film takes viewers north to Gills Rock to explore the makers of one of the peninsula’s best-known products, smoked fish. Charlie’s Smokehouse is moving along to a new generation, as Charlie Voight is handing the business down to his son Chris one catch at a time, keeping a Door County delicacy alive on the shores of Lake Michigan.
The Our Door County series is produced by Peninsula Filmworks.
