Vietnam Vets Sought for Old Glory Honor Flight to D.C.

Old Glory Honor Flight is organizing a free trip in August to Washington, D.C., for Wisconsin veterans of the Vietnam War.

The trip will give 100 Vietnam veterans the opportunity to visit the nation’s Capitol and see the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Smithsonian American History Museum and Arlington National Cemetery. The group will leave EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh on the morning of Aug. 2 and return to a hero’s welcome as part of the finale of that day’s air show. A ceremony will be held immediately after the Vietnam veterans’ arrival, and will be followed by an evening concert by Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band.

Dubbed Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight, the one-time flight will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the end of hostilities in Vietnam. It’s being organized by Old Glory Honor Flight, which has scheduled 17 flights to Washington, D.C. for World War II and Korean War veterans from northeastern Wisconsin including three flights that departed from Wittman Regional Airport during EAA AirVenture.

Vietnam veterans who wish to participate in the Aug. 2 Yellow Ribbon Honor Flight from Oshkosh must complete an application at airventure.org/attractions/application-honor-flight.pdf. Because this is a one-time-only event for Vietnam veterans, applications received by July 1 will be entered into a random drawing.
