The Gibraltar/Washington Island baseball team’s season ended Tuesday in the WIAA Division 4 Sectional at Rosholt.
The Vikings lost to Iola-Scandinavia in their sectional semifinal game, 6-1.
Gibraltar/Washington Island took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Sam Lindenberg singled and ended up scoring on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.
The one-run lead held up until the fifth inning when Vikings starting pitcher Noah Greene gave up a solo home run to the Thunderbirds’ Parker Gullixon to tie the game at 1-1.
Greene left the mound in the top of the sixth after loading up the bases, with Lindenberg pitching in relief.
Iola-Scandinavia took the lead when Lindenberg walked the first batter he faced. The Thunderbirds drove in three more runs on two hits and a groundout to take a 5-1 advantage.
Iola-Scandinavia added another run in the seventh inning when the Vikings were unable to erase the deficit.
