Vikings Continue ‘The Quest’

The 5th annual Door County Renaissance Fantasy Faire is set to open and the theme features a Viking invasion, celebrating a bit of the heritage of Washington Island and Door County.

Clan Gunn, an authentic Gaelic Viking clan, will set up a living encampment. They will present on ancient Celtic weapons and have padded weapons for training youths and adults.

Sandy Stetler, the event organizer says, “Dressing up is not required but kilts and kirtles are welcome! Of course, so are peasants, faeries, knights, and faire maidens.” Folks who dress up are more likely to be approached by the entertainers who enjoy interacting with the patrons in the streets.

There will be performers in the lanes, the four stages, the joust field and at period encampments. The Faire is designed to entertain, educate, and involve visitors of all ages. A tented marketplace with nearly 50 vendors of various handcrafted items will “hawke their wares”.

The mission of the Faire is to aid disadvantaged youth, ages 6-18, particularly those in the foster care system or juvenile court system. The mission and vision, affectionately called The Quest, will provide mentors for these youth.

The Door County Renaissance Faire runs June 29 – 30 and July 5 – 6 at 5226 Monument Point Road in Egg Harbor. Tickets are available to purchase at the venue and cash is suggested; the site is rustic, and not everyone is able to accept credit cards. The Faire goes on in rain or shine.
