Vikings Fall in Final

The Gibraltar Vikings came up just short of their first trip to the WIAA basketball sectionals yesterday, falling 60 – 58 to Green Bay NEW Lutheran at Brillion.

The Vikings had a six point halftime lead, but saw it erased by an 11 – 0 third quarter run by the Blazers. Though Gibraltar repeatedly clawed back to within a bucket, they couldn’t regain the lead and one of the best seasons in school history came to an end.

Gibraltar, which relied heavily on a seven-senior rotation throughout the season, finished 17 – 7. Seniors Sam Forkert, Tom Sawyer, and Alex Larsen saw their three-year varsity careers end with 38 victories.

It was the Vikings second straight loss in the regional final.
