Vikings One Win Away From Return to State

For the second straight year, Gibraltar’s boys basketball team has defeated Three Lakes in the WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinals.

The No. 8-seeded Vikings downed the No. 2-seeded Bluejays, 60-44, in Thursday’s matchup at Suring.

Gibraltar, which led 31-19 at halftime, had three players end up scoring in double figures led by Jake Schar with a game-high 18 points. Mateo Jauregui added 16 points, and Will Friedenfels scored 12 more.

Jared Kaufman led Three Lakes with 14 points.

Gibraltar, which improved to 13-14 overall, will face Wausau Newman in the sectional championship game Saturday at 1 pm in Seymour. The winner advances to next week’s state tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.
