Vikings, Pioneers Compete at D3 Track Regional

The Gibraltar and Sevastopol track-and-field teams competed Monday at the WIAA Division 3 regional at Valders, where the top-four finishers in each event qualified for Thursday’s Marathon sectional.

The Viking girls, who placed fourth out of 11 teams with 76.75 points, recorded two individual regional titles from McKailey Reisen winning the 100-meter hurdles (16.31 seconds) and the high jump (5 feet, 1 inch).

Betsy Lecy placed fourth in the 3200 run (14:11.25), while Bella Jones was fourth in the long jump (15-1).

Gibraltar’s four girls relay teams all qualified for the sectional by placing second in the 4×800 relay (10:52.89), third in the 4×100 relay (53.18) and 4x200m relay (1:53.9), and fourth in the 4×400 relay (5:05.85).

The Pioneer girls, who finished  sixth with 64.75 points, had three individual regional champions.

Kylee Duessler won the 200 dash (27.3) and placed second in the 100 dash (13.68).

Bea Dramm won the 3200 run (12:45.55) and placed second in the 1600 run (5:45.34).

Caitlyn Fellner won the 400 dash (1:04.72).

Sevastopol’s other sectional girls qualifier was Danica Werkheiser, who placed second in the high jump (5-1).

Gibraltar’s boys, who placed ninth with 38 points, got 20 of those points by winning the 4×100 relay (46.22) and 4×200 relay (1:35.27).

Braden Sitte, who was on both winning relay teams, also placed third in the 200 dash (24.03) and fourth in the high jump (5-8).

Will Lecy, another member of the two winning relay teams, placed fourth in the 200 dash (24.09).

Sevastopol’s boys, who placed 10th with 30 points, had one competitor qualify for the sectional in two events with Ezra Linnan placing second in the pole vault (11-0) and fourth in the 800 run (2:10.67).
