Sister Bay Receives $906,000 Trail Grant

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has granted $906,000 to the Village of Sister Bay for a walking and biking trail along state Highway 57 .

The state’s Transportation Alternatives Program grant – the same program grant the Village of Egg Harbor has received for its highway redevelopment project – will enable the village to begin work in the spring on a 10-foot wide, multi-modal asphalt trail extending 4,500 feet from the intersection of Gateway Drive near state Highway 42, south to Northwoods Drive, parallelling the west side of Hwy 57. The route will provide safe access to the Northern Door Children’s Center, and connect homes, apartments and businesses to the downtown area.

Door County Medical Center contributed to the cost of designing the trail over the past year, and Stantec, a civil engineering firm, designed the trail. It’s one of several being planned in Northern Door County among a collective of communities working together to design a trail system that will connect Sister Bay to the Egg Harbor area, and ultimately connect to Sturgeon Bay, south to the Ahnapee Trail and into Kewaunee County.
