Vintage Vacation

“Here is an old picture of me from about 30 years ago, standing in front of The Rushes in Baileys Harbor,” shares Lara BushPensy. “My mom and dad bought time shares there around the time it was being built. My parents are now retired, living in Sister Bay and my dad works part-time at The Rushes front desk. We laugh at this picture because of the tall red boots and red ski jacket.

We were walking in the woods and there was a very large group of deer. When they saw me, they moved further back into the woods but this very large buck with a huge rack on its head stayed put and stared me down! I was around 13 or so at the time and I began to wonder if deer react to red like bulls do, and then I retreated backwards pretty fast upon having that thought!”

In an effort to celebrate the county, the fashions, and the awkwardness that ran rampant before the days of digital – we hope to feature your vintage Door County vacation photos. Let’s see you enjoying the county in your Air Jordans, neon-colored fanny packs, teased hair, and shoulder pads. Embrace the awkwardness!
