Visions: Mike and Judy Brodd

The Brodd’s Little Cottage is a seasonal cottage single-family rental unit located adjacent to a beautiful Door County forest as well as apple and cherry orchards.

We believe that visitors come to Door County and stay at our little cottage because of the natural beauty of the area and because it is not over-commercialized. We are dramatically different from Wisconsin Dells and portions of Wisconsin’s HWY 51 corridor and we want to stay that way.

To preserve our natural attributes and to succeed as a tourist-based economy we must develop, in Door County, a form of sustainable eco-tourism. To do that we believe that we all need to be as green as we can be. By joining the Wisconsin Travel Green Program, promoting the three “R’s of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and encouraging our guests to participate in “quiet” activities such as hiking, kayaking, birding, biking. We try to encourage that type of sustainable tourism.

Unlike many area lodging establishments, our little cottage has no TV, no computer games, no phone, no WiFi, and no hot tub. Instead we encourage outdoor activities at the campfire pit and by walking in the forest adjacent to the cottage. We promote an awareness of and respect for the natural beauty of the Door County environment. We also provide resources for our guests to learn about our state and county parks, both indigenous and invasive plants and animals and the concept of sustainable eco-tourism.

We support the Green Fund, the Door County Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy, and The Ridges. We try to buy locally and encourage our guests to do the same.

In our opinion, if we are going to have a beautiful Door County for our grandchildren and beyond and if we are going to have a Door County economy that provides housing, jobs and goods and services in the future, we all need to be as green today as we can be.
