Vivacious Violins Decorated to Benefit Music School

One of six “Vivacious Violins” painted by Door County artists to be auctioned at a fundraiser for the Door County String Academy on Sunday, May 17 at Bjِrklunden. This selection was painted by artist Tim Nyberg of Gallery Forty Two in Juddville (www.galleryfortytwo.com).

The Door County String Academy Inc. presents “Vivacious Violins” as part of a fundraising event on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 4 pm at Bjِrklunden in Baileys Harbor. The event includes not only a concert, but also an auction, where six 3/4 violins donated to the Door County String Academy by Heid Music in Appleton, Wis. will be sold to the highest bidder.

Not your average violins, the varnish was carefully removed from each, and they were painted white. The violins were then painted by professional Door County artists. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the violins will go towards the Door County String Academy Scholarship Program. All six violins will be on display at the Door Community Auditorium from May 1 through May 17, 2009.

This selection was painted by artist Ernest Beutel (www.sweetmouthjackson.com).

Performers in the concert include local professional musicians Cyndy Stiehl (mezzo soprano), Judy Jackson (piano), and Lawrence University Cello Professor Janet Anthony. A reception will follow the concert. Tickets are $20 per person. Reserve tickets by calling 920.421.0753 or buy tickets at the door.

Currently, 45 students take string lessons through the Door County String Academy. These students play the violin, viola, cello and string bass. Students range from 8 – 18 in age and are public, private and home school students. New students are invited to take lessons beginning in August 2009.
