Volunteer Voices

“The Volunteer Center? Never heard of it.”

Think of it like this, the Volunteer Center of Door County is the “Match.com” of volunteering. The Volunteer Center, through its website http://www.VolunteerDoorCounty.com, matches potential volunteers with non-profit agencies based upon the volunteer’s interests and talents.

How cool is that? You can go online anytime, anywhere and see what opportunities are out there. You’ll undoubtedly be surprised as to what you can do, so go ahead and take a look – we’ll never tell.

And there’s a bonus that comes with volunteering. With the economy the way it is, and jobs hard to find, volunteering can actually be a great way to boost your resume and give you an edge over other potential employees. Maybe you’re into music. How about ushering at the Door Community Auditorium for any one of their melodious events? Love animals? The Humane Society always needs dog walkers or cat caretakers.

Keep in mind, volunteering also gives you opportunities to network with people who “know” people. You can actually help other people while helping yourself making volunteering a win-win.

So find something you love, and you might just find something that loves you back.

The Volunteer Center is located at 62 S. Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.
