Volunteers Needed for Cherry Fest

Volunteers are needed for vendor coordination and kolache baking at Jacksonport’s Cherry Fest. “The volunteers make Cherry Fest work,” states Vicki Bley as the Jacksonport Historical Society (JHS) prepares for their 22nd annual fundraising event to be held Aug. 6 in Lakeside Park and the Erskine Rest Area on Hwy. 57.

Bley adds that one position in particular concerns her. For many years, she has coordinated the fest’s juried arts and crafts fair. She is seeking a new coordinator who can work with her through the summer and take over in 2017. Anyone interested in learning more about this volunteer position may contact her at 920.823.2316.

Also of concern this year are volunteers for baking the special cherry kolaches that always sell out at Cherry Fest. Plans are underway to increase the number of these popular pastries by establishing a second team of bakers. Anyone interested in learning the art of cherry kolache baking with the Jacksonport recipe are invited to contact Lorie Orthober at [email protected] or 920.743.1827 and leave a message.

To help with set up or clean up, contact Gary Rezeau 321.543.4887 or email at [email protected]. For general information on volunteer opportunities or to schedule hours in the bakery/sundae booth, call Bev Ozburn at 920.823.2653.
