In honor of National Volunteer Week (April 12-18) we take a look at volunteerism in the United States.

Percent of Americans who volunteered in 2014, or about 62.8 million people. That is slightly down from the 2013 rate of 25.4 percent of the population.

Percent of women who volunteered, compared to 22 percent of men.

The percent of volunteers representing 35- to 44-year-olds, which is the highest among any age group. The lowest, 18.7 percent, is in the 20- to 24-year-old age group.

Percent of volunteers who were married. The percentage for people who had never married was 20.2, while those with other marital status was 21.1 percent.

The percent of volunteerism for religious organizations, followed by educational or youth services, 25.1 percent; and social and community service organizations, 14.4 percent.
