Waite Demonstrates Wood Carving

People will see Door County basswood transformed into a lovely loon as they watch woodcarver Jerry Waite work from 10 am – 5 pm on Saturday, July 11, at Door County Interiors & Design in Egg Harbor.

Waite makes life-size loons and will show the birds in different sizes including full scale, half-scale and three-quarter scale versions. His carving will continue throughout the day, and he will be available to answer questions as he carves.

“The loons are cut from basswood and are Door County art,” he said. “People can come and see how a carving is done and get an appreciation for the amount of work that goes into it.”

Waite, of Sturgeon Bay, also plans to bring a few new pieces of his art to the demonstration in addition to his swans and other wood carvings that are now available for sale at Door County Interiors & Design. Waite’s other offerings include duck decoys carved from Door County white cedar and Scandinavian holiday folklore pieces in basswood.
