Walk the Escarpment

On July 26, from 9 am – 12 pm, explore “The Waters of The Ledge” at The Ridges Sanctuary in celebration of the Niagara Escarpment’s eastern edge of the Door Peninsula, along the “backside” (or cuesta) of the Niagara Escarpment.

Marne Kaeske, stewardship coordinator with The Ridges Sanctuary, will lead the small group along some of the five miles of trails which grace the property in order to discover the special and complex relationships between the ledge, the adjacent waters of Lake Michigan, and the groundwater.

Special guests Dr. Ron Stieglitz, UW – Green Bay emeritus, and Brian Forest, environmental services manager for The Ridges and former Door County Soil & Water Conservation Department employee, will join the group for a morning of exploration on topics such as geology, karst, endangered species and their habitats, and natural area management of shoreline environments.

After the tour, lunch (not included in the cost) will be at the Baileys Harbor Cornerstone Pub.

This tour will be held rain or shine, so dress appropriately and wear sturdy shoes. Registration is limited to 15 people. Fees are $20 per person for NERN/LNRP members, $30 per person for non-members. Fees are non-refundable, unless tour cancelled. Register before July 20 by contacting Sherrill Anderson at [email protected] or 920.412.1920.
