On the weekend before Christmas, the Door Peninsula gave to me … a weekend of good music, traditions and holiday cheer!

Walter Parks with pat mAcdonald

Head to the Holiday Music Motel for an evening of live music with blues and jazz guitarist and composer Walter Parks (who was lead guitarist for Richie Havens) and Sturgeon Bay musician pat mAcdonald. Doors open at 7:30 pm and reservations are recommended.

Baroque Holiday Tunes

Midsummer’s Music Festival is teaming up with Sevastopol Madrigal Singers and the Madison Bach Musicians to offer two free community concerts (one each in Fish Creek and Sturgeon Bay) of baroque holiday favorites on period instruments this weekend.

Christmas Bird Count Sampler

Have you ever wanted to see what it’s like to conduct a bird census? Join the staff at Crossroads at Big Creek for either a morning or afternoon session, and enjoy some hot chocolate and coffee. 9 am and 1:30 pm.

Traditional Barn Dance

The holidays are all about tradition, and what could be more traditional than a barn dance at Institute Saloon? Beginners are welcome and instruction is provided. 7 pm.

Hagen Family Christmas

Speaking of tradition, one thing you won’t want to miss is the annual Hagen Family Christmas at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay! Join them for an evening of holiday music and family fun. 7:30 pm.

Sunday, December 20

Local Children Spreading Cheer Through Performance

Join the children’s cast of Rogue Theater for two heartwarming productions at Sturgeon Bay Jaycee Hall: A Home for Jo-Jo and Sara Finds Christmas. Or, if you’re in Northern Door, stop by the Baileys Harbor Town Hall for a mini ballet production of Sara and the Toy Shoppe: A Mini Ballet Production, presented by Dancin’ On the Door’s youth program.
