Jan. 3 is the deadline to get on the ballot
April may seem far away weather wise, but it’s not for those who want to become involved in their communities by running for a seat on a town, village, city or school board.
The first day for candidates to circulate nomination papers was Dec. 1. Signatures are required, with a minimum of 20 for most local ballots. Your local clerk will guide you on the requirements. The deadline to file those nomination papers is Jan. 3 by 5 pm.
Incumbents who no longer plan to serve must file their Notification of Noncandidacy by Dec. 23. Each municipality or school district posts notifications of noncandidacy, according to Jill Lau, Door County clerk.
“Nothing will be all in one place,” she said.
If a primary is necessary, those will be held Feb. 21. The spring election is April 4.
Countywide on that ballot will be the seat for Door County Circuit Court judge Branch 2, currently held by David Weber, and a statewide race for justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court for the seat currently held by Patience Roggensack.
Below are the seats up for election in area towns, villages, the city of Sturgeon Bay and school districts. No county board seats are up for election in April.
