The Washington Island Parks Committee (WIPC) has been charged by the Town Board with the responsibility of making the Island Parks self-sustaining.
The newly appointed committee members are active this winter promoting and sponsoring various activities on the Island, including the Polar Plunge at School House Beach on New Year’s Day, skating at the Lion’s Club skating rink on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and hosting the Candlelight Ski on Heritage Trail Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 6-8 pm.
Visit their Facebook page for more information and for future events, including the “Rock” Concert at School House Beach on Saturday, May 23, 2020 from 2-8 pm.
The most exciting news from WIPC this winter is the announcement of the winner of its logo design contest on January 17, 2020. Shannon Young is the winner for her design, which captured both the natural beauty of the Island parks and highlighted some of the park’s key landmarks.
Young’s logo will be featured on WIPC’s retail merchandise beginning this spring. Many of the other entrants will also get to see their creative handiwork displayed on various items for sale throughout the year. By contest rules, all entries are copyrighted by WIPC and are available for licensing to retailers. All proceeds will go to sustaining the Island Parks.
