Washington Island Police Receive Grant for New Laptop

The Washington Island Police Department has received a Crime Prevention Sustainability Grant of $1,000 to assist in purchasing a laptop computer for one of its patrol vehicles. The grant from the Door County Community Foundation allowed the Washington Island Police Department to replace a 10-year-old laptop computer in one of its patrol vehicles.

These laptop computers allow officers to run background checks in the field on suspects and people who have been stopped for traffic citations. The police department received pricing for the laptop computer through BAYCOM in Green Bay. The computer, software and mounting brackets are already installed and in full operation.

The laptop is compatible with a computer-aided dispatch system through the Door County Sheriff’s Department. This gives officers the ability to write reports, review similar cases and have contact with deputies in the sheriff’s department and officers from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department.
