Watch the Blacksmith at The Clearing

The Clearing Folk School will host a demonstration by blacksmith Dan Nauman on Aug. 13 – 15 at the Jens Jensen Visitor Center at 12171 Garrett Bay Road in Ellison Bay. Nauman will demonstrate the art and craft of forging each of the three days from 9 – 11:30 am and 2 – 5 pm.

Nauman is the owner of Bighorn Forge in Kewaskum, Wis., and is The Clearing’s consulting blacksmith on The Forge at The Clearing, a new building for forging and other metal craft that is scheduled to be built in 2016. The building will be used year round for classes ranging from one day to one week long in forging (blacksmithing), metal sculpture, metal casting and other types of metal craft.

During the demonstrations, Nauman will make many of the tools that students will use in classes. He will also have forged wrought iron items to sell and is donating many forged items that will be sold in The Clearing’s Bookstore and Gift Shop. All proceeds from the sale of the donated items will go to The Forge at The Clearing building fund.
