‘We Shall Overcome’ at DCA

The Door Community Auditorium (DCA) will present We Shall Overcome – an electrifying, multifaceted musical tribute to the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. – on Feb. 19 at 7 pm.

Inspired by King’s words and actions, the performance will showcase African-American musical traditions that moved generations of civil-rights activists and defenders, interwoven with spoken word from King’s recorded speeches. We Shall Overcome will tie together a living lineage that includes traditional and modern gospel, classical, jazz, Broadway and spirituals.

As the producer and musical director, Damien Sneed has a mastery of these genres that allows him to cover vast musical territory in a single performance. During his storied career, he has conducted major original works for Wynton Marsalis, accompanied Jessye Norman, collaborated with Lawrence Brownlee and toured extensively with Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and the Clark Sisters. We Shall Overcome will also include a choir of Door County singers.

Tickets range from $25 to $48 per person, and $10 for students. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made through the DCA box office, by phone at 920.868.2728 or online at dcauditorium.org.
