Week-long Add to the Archives Event at Door County Historical Museum

The Door County Historical Museum will have a weeklong Add to the Archives event and display of “Door County Orchard Memories” beginning Aug. 17.

Do you have any memories of cherry or apple picking in Door County? The museum will collect photos, related items or memories from people who were a part of those times and activities. These could be from your own picking days, your family’s orchard, or from memories of other crews brought in to work, such as Native Americans, Jamaicans, or Mexican migrants who went from area to area harvesting various crops throughout the growing season.

There were also youth and YMCA camps that came from larger cities for a few weeks to work in Door County. There were German POWs working in the orchards during World War II. It was recently discovered that some of the POWs crafted items in their spare time for gifts or for sale.

Photos can be scanned and returned. Artifacts can be loaned to the museum for the duration of the exhibit, instead of donating.

Door County Historical Museum is located at 18 North 4th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. For more information call 920.743.5809 or visit map.co.door.wi.us/museum.
