Weekend Recap

_On Friday, I hunkered down and watched back-to-back episodes of my new favorite show – Orange is the New Black. Witty, intense, and surprisingly poignant – the series makes you think…and never want to go to jail.

_I awoke to heaps of pure white snow blanketing Door County, begging to be trampled through. After I ate my Cheerios, I strapped on over-sized Polaris snowboots and ventured to Toft Point near Baileys Harbor.

_I’ll admit – the walk to and from that peaceful water view was an awkward, labored one. Now I understand why snowshoes were invented.

_I rehydrated and cleaned up for a night of dining and dancing. 136 in Sturgeon Bay serves a delicious pork, complimented with fantastic wine and three giggly girls. (Sometimes you forget to take photos when you’re discussing everyone’s recent case of colds or flus. “You know what really helps,” said my friend Corinne Lea, “drugs.” Not illegal, mind you!)

_We wandered from 136 to Stone Harbor Resort, where Door County’s newest band – created just a block away at The Holiday Music Motel – was performing. WIFEE and the HUZzBAND, complete with a horn section and an appearance by local rapper Fatty Lean, packed the place and had us dancing in our scarves and winter boots.

_A hot cup of coffee and hearty breakfast at Steel Bridge Café re-energized me after a night of dancing, prepared me for another winter hike.

_With a mason jar of Cherry Pie Moonshine in hand, a friend and I climbed over the ice-covered limestone of Cave Point County Park, taking in the beautiful white, icy scene.

_The first three quarters of the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots football game had my attention, then the presence of a napping cat had me curling up on the couch, falling (unintentionally) asleep for the entire fourth quarter. I awoke to a shower of blue and orange confetti pouring over Peyton Manning and was pleased.
