Weekly Snowshoe Hikes Offered at Ridges Sanctuary

Snowshoeing is a great way to explore Door County in winter, and burn off some of those extra holiday calories. Starting on January 2, The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor will sponsor weekly guided Snowshoe Hikes. Each Friday in January and February, the public can join Naturalist Karen Newbern to explore the Sanctuary trails and learn about winter ecology and wildlife.

Snowshoe hikes begin at 1 pm at the Upper Range Light in Baileys Harbor (8270 Hwy. 57). Some loaner snowshoes are available; call ahead to reserve a pair. If there is insufficient snow, we will hike without snowshoes. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person for these hikes. Call the Ridges office at 920.839.2802 for more information on any program.

The Ridges Sanctuary is Wisconsin’s oldest nonprofit nature preserve, established in 1937. Trails at the Sanctuary are open to the public year-round for hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. A small trail fee is charged. The Ridges Sanctuary is located just north of Baileys Harbor, on County Road Q (a quarter mile east of Highway 57). For more information on any of The Ridges’ programs, call 920.839.2802, or visit http://www.ridgessanctuary.org.
