What Happened in Door County?

• The application pool for the County Administrator position has been narrowed down to three finalists: Josh Van Lieshout, village administrator for Egg Harbor; Maureen Murphy, village administrator for Slinger; and Charles Kell, village administrator for Little Chute.

The first round of interviews for the position took place on August 10. Corporation Counsel and Acting Administrator Grant Thomas said that additional interviews may or may not be necessary before settling on a final candidate that will be presented to the board.

• In order to cover rising food costs, the Gibraltar School Board approved a 10-cent increase in the price of hot lunches for the 2012-2013 school year. The increase is expected to bring in about $5,000 of revenue for the school.

• The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative (SBSI) has released final design plans for the public skatepark that will be built on the city’s West Side, at the corner of Madison Avenue and Spruce Streets. The plans are on display at Glas Coffee House, the YMCA, Baylake Bank, and at the City of Sturgeon Bay Parks and Rec Department.

Final construction costs for the park are estimated to be $550,000. SBSI is hopeful that they’ll be able to break ground on the park early next spring.
