What Happened in Door County?

• The Sister Bay Village Board unanimously voted to rescind its prior decision to move the intersection of Highways 57 and 42 at its Sept. 11 meeting. Trustee Dave Lienau made the motion to rescind the previous vote. He said the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) could not keep the board’s requests to keep the current Highway 57 open as a local access road and would have doubled that road’s grade.

“When I reviewed that, I determined…it’s not a viable option,” Lienau said at the meeting.

The board also voted to accept another alternative for the intersection, which essentially keeps the current 42/57 intersection while widening lanes at Gateway Drive, Country Walk Lane, 42 and 57 for easier turning and better visibility.

The DOT will now work on a more detailed construction plan and present it to the village later this fall.

Eighty-five people signed in to the Sept. 11 meeting to discuss the construction.

• John Neville was re-appointed as Airport Commissioner of the Ephraim-Gibraltar airport at the Gibraltar Town Board meeting on Sept. 5.

• The town of Gibraltar will now post official documents, like meeting agendas, in the locked display case outside the town center.

“This way it’s a little more open, it’s very well lit, you know that the posting doesn’t go anywhere,” said Beth Hagen, town of Gibraltar clerk. “It’s one more way to try and help people be informed.”

Other posting locations in Fish Creek are Baylake Bank, the post office and the BP gas station.

• Peninsula State Park superintendent Kelli Bruns said people interested in reserving winter campsites should look for space in Potawatomi State Park because Tennison Bay campground in Peninsula State Park is scheduled to close for the winter. Electricity upgrades may leave the campground without electricity or a water source for the winter.
