What Happened in Door County?

Retiring Gibraltar Schools Superintendent Steve Seyfer attended his last school board meeting on June 25. The school board presented him with a gift to celebrate his 15 years of service with the district.

• The week of June 25 marked Gibraltar Superintendent Steve Seyfer’s last week with the Gibraltar School District. Seyfer has worked with the district for 15 years both as superintendent and, for the last two years, elementary school principal.

“The kids have absolutely loved him, and the teachers have loved him as well,” says Sally Pfeifer, President of the Gibraltar Board of Education. “I think it was nice for him to get to work directly with kids at such a late stage in his career.”

Employees at the district credit Seyfer with a number of achievements, including technological and facilities advancements as well as getting Gibraltar ranked on both U.S. News and Newsweek’s national “Best Of” list for high schools.

“Dr. Seyfer is a really innovative leader. He’s got a great deal of vision, and he’s very infectious with that vision,” says Lauren Bremer, a teacher at Gibraltar. “I think the community was incredibly fortunate in having him for the last 15 years.”

Seyfer’s official last day was June 29. Tina Van Meer, Seyfer’s replacement, will start on July 2.
