What To Do In Door County This Weekend: Feb. 13-15

Friday the 13th followed by Valentine’s Day – it was bound to happen sooner or later. To honor both of the occasions, countless businesses, organizations and parks throughout the county are planning events to get you out and about. If you live in Door County or are visiting for the weekend, here are some of our calendar picks for the weekend ahead:

Friday

1. Young Artists Reception at Glas Coffee House: Glas Coffee House will host a reception featuring works of art by members of the Boys & Girls Club of Door County. The event kicks off at 5 pm.

2. Fun Run at Door County Brewing Company: Door County Brewing Company will host representatives from Saucony, RunAway Shoes and the Door County Half Marathon at 5:45 pm. There will also be a 2 – 3 mile social fun run in Baileys Harbor and a chance to demo products, win raffle prizes, and meet brewer Danny McMahon. No registration required and no fee.

3. Door County Short Film Festival: This year’s event will feature Friday night “Fright Night” at 7 pm, a “Fright Night” Encore on Saturday at 5 pm, and “Premiere Presentations” at 7 pm on Saturday. There will also be a free on-camera acting workshop at 10 am on Saturday and a filmmaker forum at 2 pm on Saturday. All events are held at the Sister Bay Village Hall. $5/person/night.

4. Love On Holiday: The Holiday Music Motel’s weeklong songwriting/recording event will culminate in a series of performances about love and love gone away on Friday and Saturday nights. Both nights kick off at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Saturday

1. Door County Reads Finale Program: The Door Peninsula Astronomical Society will help the Door County community celebration the accomplishments, goals and adventurous spirit of the 1960s with the “Space Race Family Fair” from 2 – 4 pm at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay.

2. Candlelight Ski, Hike and Snowshoe at Newport: Enjoy the one-mile trail lit by homemade candles along with a bonfire and refreshments from 5:30 – 8:30 pm on Saturday at Newport State Park in Ellison Bay.

3. Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Skate: Bring your loved one to the T.K.H. Community Ice Rink in Sister Bay for the Sweetheart Skate, featuring a cozy bonfire and special “love lanterns” from 5 – 9 pm.

Sunday

1. Wild About Woodpeckers:  Enjoy a 20-minute PowerPoint program about Peninsula woodpeckers, see taxidermy woodpeckers up close, and watch for live woodpeckers at the bird feeders. The event kicks off at 1 pm at Peninsula State Park.
