What’s Coming Up in Door County?

The Department of Natural Resources will hold a meeting on Aug. 7 in Green Bay to discuss the future of fish stocking in Lake Michigan. In order to protect the food source of game fish and the lake’s food chain, resource managers from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin intend to stock fewer salmon and trout. The meeting will be held at the DNR Northeast Region Headquarters at 2984 Shawano Ave. in Green Bay at 6:30 pm.

Residents can help the Department of Natural Resources survey the local deer herd by tracking all bucks, does and fawns seen in August and September. For more information, go to the department’s website (http://dnr.wi.gov) and search “Deer Watch.”

The Sexual Assault Centers in Door, Brown, Oconto and Marinette counties will host the first annual motorcycle Ride for Justice on August 5 in an effort to recover some of the funds lost in fiscal cutbacks this year.

The festivities will be held at the new Vandervest Harley Davidson at 1966 Velp Ave. in Green Bay, with registration from 8:30 – 10:45 am. The motorcycle ride leaves at 11 am, and the event will include live music, food drinks and raffles/auctions anytime after 2 pm.

The funds raised will help support the victims and families of those affected by sexual assault in northeast Wisconsin. For more information call 920.436.8899.

Sustain Door will meet at the Sturgeon Bay library on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 7 pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring suggestions about maintaining the organization and handling the Sustainability Fair in April 2013. Only paid-up members will be allowed to vote, and new members may pay the $10 fee at the meeting.
