What’s Coming Up in Door County?

• The City of Sturgeon Bay and the Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) will be offering $140,000 in loans to businesses along next year’s Bayview Bridge closure detour route. The loans, which can be taken out for up to $20,000, are meant for façade improvements and will be offered at interest rates as low as 1 percent.

Bill Chaudoir, Executive Director at DCEDC, says the hope is to get the money out into the community as quickly as possible. If demand for the program is great enough, DCEDC may approach the city for more funding.

In order to be eligible for the loans, businesses will have to provide matching funds and satisfy a federal job creation/savings requirement. Those looking to apply can contact Chaudoir at 920.743.3113.

• The Door County Board of Supervisors will continue their search for a new County Administrator. At the June 26 meeting, Board Chairman Dan Austad said that advertisements have been posted and the search is now in the hands of the county’s HR department. The deadline for receiving applications is July 27.

The Board also took action regarding previous administrator Michael Serpe’s ability to file claim against the county. The board motioned for an official disallowance of claim, which signals the start of a six-month clock in which Serpe could possibly bring suit against the county regarding his dismissal.

Corporation Counsel Grant Thomas said that the action was standard procedure and simply preserves Serpe’s right to bring claim against the county if he so chooses. Currently, no such suit has been filed.
