The bluegrass group The Special Consensus will be featured in concert on April 11 at the White Gull Inn in Fish Creek. Tickets for the 8 pm concert, the last in a series of six, are $16.
Since its inception 35 years ago, The Special Consensus has been touring the United States and internationally. It has appeared on the Nashville Network Fire on the Mountain show and released 14 recordings. In November of 2003, The Special Consensus received a standing ovation after its first performance on the Grand Ole Opry at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.
The Special Consensus repertoire features original compositions by band members and professional songwriters, including traditional bluegrass standards by Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs and other bluegrass legends as well as songs by artists from other musical genres.
Bandleader Greg Cahill plays banjo and sings baritone and tenor vocals. Born in Chicago, he formed The Special Consensus in 1975. He is a 2011 recipient of the International Bluegrass Musicians Association (IBMA) Distinguished Achievement Award. Other band members, all of whom perform vocals, include mandolin player Rick Faris, bassist David Thomas, and guitarist Dustin Benson.
An optional pre-concert dinner will be served at 6 pm. The menu consists of Stromboli filled with pork sausage, prosciutto, tomatoes, garlic, and mozzarella cheese, and Tiramisu for dessert.
